Big innovations in home appliances can offer builders the opportunity to construct the smart home that buyers are seeking.
Two new examples come from KitchenAid and Whirlpool. The KitchenAid Smart Oven+ with Powered Attachments, the Whirlpool Smart Front Control Range, and the KitchenAid Limited Edition 36” 6-Burner Dual Fuel Freestanding, Commercial Style Range, demonstrate the innovation of the IoT (Internet of Things).
The KitchenAid Smart Oven+ with Powered Attachments will connect to the downloadable Yummly app, where users can receive as well as log recipes, update their shopping list, and have food delivered to their home. Other features also include the Even-Heat True Convection Oven, a 4.5-inch LCD display, connectivity to the KitchenAid app, which offers notifications of the system’s status, and the option to give voice commands through Google Assistant or Amazon’s Alexa.
The Whirlpool Smart Front Control Range also connects to the Yummly App, allowing home owners the ability to send recipe suggestions from the app to the oven. The Yummly App is one of many features that uses the IoT to innovate meal preparation. Similar to the KitchenAid Smart Oven+, the Whirlpool Smart Front Control Range gives the option of voice control capabilities through Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa, as well as the control over a colorful LCD touchscreen. The Whirlpool Smart Front Control Range differs in its scan-to-cook technology that allows families to scan packaged food items’ UPC (Universal Product Code) barcode for directions on cooking time and temperature, its multi-step cooking capabilities, and the remote start functionality, which allows users to heat and ready the oven from a Wi-Fi-compatible device.
The construction industry needs to implement the IoT to keep up with the innovating market of home appliances. Whirlpool and KitchenAid are two major companies in home appliances that integrate the IoT to their products. This is one way the construction industry can innovate its approach to building and installation.
