The New Year marks an opportunity to change business processes and technology within an organization. In 2019, construction companies need to keep an eye on emerging technology, recognizing which trends will take over the market, and which are worth investing in.
For instance, Gartner, www.gartner.com, Stamford, Conn., points to strategic technology trends for 2019, which are growing rapidly and will reach a tipping point in the next five years. This includes: autonomous things, augmented analytics, AI (artificial intelligence)-driven development, digital twins, edge computing, immersive experiences, blockchain, smart spaces, digital ethics and privacy, and quantum computing—all trends that have been explored in Constructech already.
Still, the tipping point is coming, and as contractors and builders plan new investments, these are some of the top trends to watch in the months ahead, as tech companies are already exploring and incorporating some advancements in new systems. Similarly, IDC, www.idc.com, Framingham, Mass., recently unveiled its worldwide CIO agenda predictions for 2019. Chiefly, as always, CIOs must reinvent IT top to bottom. Going forward, they will also need to create new digital platforms with agile connectivity and modernize legacy systems or risk professional extinction.
Naturally, as economic conditions and industry needs continue to evolve, CIOs will be compelled to watch IT spending, while accelerating innovation. At the same time, IDC predicts, 70% of CIOs will aggressively apply data and AI to IT operations, tools, and processes by 2021.
For the construction industry, this is a whole new world that needs to be explored today. Technology is advancing at a rapid clip—and contractors and builders need to keep up in order to remain competitive in a changing marketplace.
This is where the annual Constructech Top Products enter the equation. The editors, and board of advisors, have done the research to find the best products in the construction market. Products are submitted for consideration, and each is vetted by each judge, based on the product’s core functionality and innovative new features. At the time of press, there were a number of other companies emerging in the AI and blockchain space that will be ones to keep an eye on in the future.
Top Products can fall within three categories: Concept Product, New Product, or Trusted Product. The Concept Product category features new technology concepts that are less than three months old, while New Products have been in the market for less than two years, and the Trusted Product category have been in the market for at least three years, and the technology has been upgraded or enhanced.
This year’s winning products include: Agile Frameworks’ MetaField; Aterra Designs’ Luminosity; Austin Lane Technologies’ Grid Time Entry; Autodesk’s BIM 360; Avadencia; Bentley Systems’ Synchro PRO; Buildertrend; Built On Vision; Built On Vision’s Salma (AI); Bullitt’s Cat S61; CMiC’s CMiC Collaborate; CoConstruct; Command Alkon’s COMMANDassurance; Computer Guidance Corp.’s eCMS Cloud-Based Construction ERP Software; Computer Presentation Systems’ WarrantyWatcher; Contractor Foreman; ECi Software Solutions’ LotVue; ECi Software Solutions’ MarkSystems; Explorer Software’s Eclipse; GCP Applied Technologies’ VERIFI in-transit concrete management; Hexagon PPM’s Intergraph Smart Construction; Hilti’s Hilti Connect App; Hilti’s ON!Track; HomeFront Software; HomeSphere’s HomeSphere-IQ; InEight Document; InEight’s Project Administration Solution; Milwaukee Tool’s Tick Tool and Equipment Tracker; Milwaukee Tool’s ONE-KEY; OxBlue’s Cobalt Series; Prescient; Salefish Software; Systemates’ Projectmates; Touchplan; Triax Technologies’ Spot-r by Triax; and WeatherBuild’s WeatherBuild Basic and WeatherBuild Pro.
