McMurdo Station was built more than 60 years ago, and many of the station’s buildings are aged and inefficient. Enter the NSF’s (National Science Foundation’s) AIMS (Antarctic Infrastructure Modernization for Science) project.

In 2011, an independent review of the U.S. Antarctic program determined that McMurdo Station needs building upgrades to improve operations. AIMS is designed to ensure that major portions of McMurdo Station remain state-of-the-art and capable of supporting Antarctic science for the next 35 to 50 year.

The final design represents an aesthetic that responds to the location and the importance of NSF as a science agency. Parsons recently selected Stantec to handle design and interiors on the project.
