Carol Stream, Ill. – Aug. 10, 2018 – The world population is predicted to grow from 8.5 billion in 2030 to 9.7 billion in 2050. Is the construction industry prepared to rebuild all the infrastructure needed for the urbanization growth prediction?

The American Society of Civil Engineers gave America’s infrastructure a D+ in the 2017 Infrastructure Report Card. In an effort to move forward and focus on how to drive change for the future, Constructech has invited Kristina Swallow, president, American Society of Civil Engineers, to speak at Constructech’s Technology Day 2018 event, which will be held on Thursday, August 23, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Chicago – Arlington Heights, Ill.

Swallow has a background that includes serving as a program manager in the capital improvements division for the City of Las Vegas, as a transportation policy advisor for a U.S. Senator, and working as a land development consultant.

“Addressing our nation’s infrastructure needs will take a groundswell of support,” say Swallow. “The construction industry has an opportunity to be a leader through the use of technology to modernize our infrastructure. This will be an opportunity for the industry to explore the path forward on how to ensure our infrastructure meets the needs of the 21st century.”

Closing out the event, Swallow and Peggy Smedley, editorial director, Constructech magazine and president, Specialty Publishing Media, will sit down for a candid conversation about the state of infrastructure—and they will discuss what needs to happen next to help rebuild America.

“Kristina is a dynamic leader and has a vision for how to improve our nation’s infrastructure,” says Smedley. “I am looking forward to having a discussion with her about what needs to happen to rebuild our infrastructure and how to best leverage technology going forward.”

This will conclude a full day of sessions, which will begin by assembling a panel of leading GCs in the United States and Canada to uncover how to invest in infrastructure—and how they are using technology to position themselves in the North American build market.

“This year’s event is one of our best lineups yet,” says Laura Black, editor, Constructech magazine. “We will be talking about infrastructure, digital transformation, emerging technologies, the labor shortage, and how to improve safety on the construction jobsite. Our hope is to address some of the biggest challenges the construction industry faces today, with the use of technology.”
